Important factors
Designing packaging in the food industry is extremely important due to the need to ensure product protection. In addition to the basic protective function, aesthetics and convenience are also important, so the packaging should be visually attractive and user-friendly for consumers.
In the process of designing food packaging, other factors such as the type of product, storage method, expiration date, and applicable legal requirements should also be taken into account. Properly designed packaging increases the attractiveness of the product, its durability, and minimizes indirect costs and potential losses.
Colors and printing type
When designing graphics, we use 4 basic CMYK colors (cyan, magenta, yellow, black) and Pantone colors. The Pantone color system is a standardized palette commonly used in the graphic design, printing, and design industries. The entire Pantone palette consists of hundreds of colors. Packaging for rice and corn cakes is usually designed using 6 to 8 colors. Cakes are packaged in various types of film, which are printed using flexographic printing. Flexography is a printing technique that involves using a special printing form onto which printing inks are applied. It is a popular printing method due to its speed, low production costs, and the ability to achieve high-quality prints.
The packaging design process at GFP
The first step is to prepare the graphic design, adjust it to the dimensions of the packaging grid, and include all necessary information and texts. At this stage, we prepare a mock-up, a trial model mimicking the appearance of the final product. In the second phase, together with the production preparation, we work on production files. We select the substrate, type of seals, confirm the dimensions of the grid, and color profiles. At this stage, our client is also active, tasked with approving the final designs and proofs. Our task is to efficiently coordinate the work and ensure its correctness. Depending on various factors, the process can take from 29 to 49 working days.
